60% Sangiovese, 40% Gamay del Trasimeno (a local strain of Grenache)
Certified Organic
A wine that showcases Sangiovese along with the tiny DOC’s unique local variety - Gamay del Trasimeno (a local strain of Grenache). Aged in cement, then old oak barrels for 6 to 8 months. Minimal added sulfur and no filtering or fining.
Montemelino was one of the first producers in the SelectioNaturel portfolio. Located overlooking Lake Trasimeno, on the northern cusp of Umbria, lies the Cantarelli family farm of Montemelino. Living in Umbria as a German immigrant, she'd found her heart in Umbria and a desire to be connected to its land. Since 1961, Margret Etten Cantarelli and her husband Guido have created a fully-functioning, independent farm and winery. They have been working the land and making the wine themselves for the past 50 years and only have recently passed it to their daughter, Sabina, to carry the farm into the next generation.
